2025 CHOW Franklin Impact Report

Overview

CHOW-FRANKLIN provides “CHOWKITS” (brown bags filled with non-perishable food items) for students at nutritional risk on weekends during the school year. The Mission of CHOW–FRANKLIN is to assist in meeting the needs of hungry children in Franklin Parish, at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends. CHOW-KITS are provided to ALL public school students in Franklin Parish, including Head Start and Horace G. White Learning Center. School administration determines need and gives numbers of CHOW-KITS needed for weekly deliveries. Through a cooperative endeavor with the Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office, the food is housed in a climate controlled facility and employees of FPSO make the weekly deliveries to the schools. Our goal is to help end childhood hunger in Franklin Parish one backpack at a time!

Mission Moments

During the first week of CHOW-KIT distribution, one teacher noticed the students who received CHOW-KITS had gathered with other students whom THEY knew would also be hungry on the weekend and redistributed the food so ALL needy children had food for the weekend! The next week the CHOW-KIT deliveries to that school increased to accommodate the greater need!! 

“Sarah,” after receiving her first CHOWKIT , asked her teacher on Monday morning if they were going to “get food again” for the weekend because she , “really needed it”… 

“Ruthie,” the mother of recipients , sent a text to the school secretary to thank her for the food her children received stating, “We so broke, every little bit helps.” 

100% of teachers surveyed noted an improvement of student attention and eagerness to learn and a “happy” attitude since the initiation of CHOW-FRANKLIN!
